Wildlife Jewels at Walter Munk Day: Jewels of La Jolla — Art, Science & Rescue

Wildlife Jewels exhibit at Walter Munk Day October 2025

A Fabulous Day at Walter Munk Day — Art, Science & Rescue Inspiration 🎨🌊

We were delighted to exhibit at the Walter Munk Day at Kellogg Park—honoring Dr. Walter Munk’s legacy and celebrating our oceans.

Thank you to everyone who helped bring our Jewels of La Jolla canvas to life and learned about La Jolla’s coastal and marine wildlife—together we connected art, science, and marine wildlife protection through firsthand stories from the field.

Huge thanks to the Walter Munk Foundation for the Oceans for hosting—and to everyone who added color and care to the coast.

At our exhibit, the community:

  • 🎨 Discovered La Jolla’s marine life in our Art & Story Studio

  • 🔎 Learned quick “search-to-save” steps: observe safely → document clearly → report quickly

  • 💡 Explored innovations inspired by marine life and ocean-smart design

  • 🖌️ Colored our hand-drawn Jewels of La Jolla™ community canvas—celebrating the wildlife just offshore

Why it matters

Along our coast, many distressed wildlife aren’t found in time—from fishing-gear entanglement to periodic toxic algal blooms and pelican starvation events. By teaching simple “search-to-save” steps right at the easel—while people are already connecting with these species through art—we make it easy for anyone to help: see it, note it, report it. The more people are empowered and connected, the more wildlife gets help.

Paint for Wildlife: Hands-on Art + Learning

Our Paint for Wildlife™ activity invited guests of all ages to explore wildlife through art and science.

  • Each wildlife featured hand-drawn line art by Wildlife Jewels’ founder artist.

  • Community participants added color, bringing each species to life while learning about their habitat, behaviors, and how we can help protect them.
