Wildlife Jewels® EYES™ La Jolla

EYES La Jolla — Coastal Wildlife Education & Community Science

A Wildlife Jewels program

EYES™ La Jolla helps neighbors observe wildlife safely, document coastal hazards, and route reports to authorized responders—supporting the well-being of seals, sea lions, seabirds, and other coastal species at La Jolla Cove and nearby shoreline.

Why La Jolla

This coastline hosts rich wildlife and heavy visitation. Education and quick, appropriate reporting reduce preventable harm (e.g., fishing-line entanglements, feeding, disturbance, toxins).

What we do

  • Guided education walks & mini-trainings (safe viewing, quick ID, don’t-feed guidance, who to contact)

  • Community-science observations (note location, photo from a distance, document hazards like line/debris/tar)

  • Rapid outreach during local wildlife events (alerts, prevention tips)

  • Monthly snapshots of hazards/hot spots shared with partners

Important: EYES is an education & community-science program. We do not handle marine mammals; those cases are referred to designated responders. Rescue/transport for permitted birds/small mammals is managed separately by the Wildlife Jewels Rescue Crew.
