Celebrating Wildlife, Art & Ocean Conservation at Walter Munk Day 2026 in La Jolla!

Bringing our community together through wildlife art, ocean education, and a shared passion for protecting marine life!

On October 3, 2026, Wildlife Jewels® was delighted to participate in Walter Munk Day 2026 at Kellogg Park in La Jolla, California, celebrating the extraordinary legacy of renowned oceanographer Walter Munk and his contributions to ocean exploration, scientific discovery, and conservation.

This wonderful community celebration brought together ocean enthusiasts, scientists, conservation organizations, artists, and families to explore the wonders of our ocean and the importance of protecting its precious marine life.

Connecting Art, Wildlife & Ocean Conservation

At the Wildlife Jewels® booth, visitors discovered our work protecting Southern California's coastal wildlife through scientific observation, wildlife rescue, conservation, art, and education.

Through our Paint the Jewels of La Jolla activity, children and adults brought their favorite marine animals to life through colorful paintings while learning about the remarkable wildlife inhabiting La Jolla's coastline.

Participants explored the unique characteristics and stories of local marine animals, including some of the precious birds and marine mammals Wildlife Jewels has had the privilege of observing, monitoring, and helping through our conservation and rescue efforts.

It was wonderful to connect with fellow ocean and wildlife enthusiasts who share our passion for protecting marine life and to see the creativity and enthusiasm of everyone participating!

Protecting La Jolla's Precious Coastal Wildlife

Visitors also learned about Wildlife Jewels' ongoing conservation initiatives, including:

  • EYES® – Wildlife Observation & Monitoring: Documenting coastal wildlife, monitoring populations, and identifying human-caused threats affecting marine animals and their habitats.

  • Wildlife Jewels Rescue Crew: Supporting injured and distressed wildlife through field observation, reporting, authorized migratory bird rescue and transport, and collaboration with wildlife rehabilitation partners.

  • Wildlife Art & Education: Inspiring appreciation for living wildlife and empowering communities to become active participants in conservation through creative, hands-on experiences.

By bringing together art, science, and community engagement, Wildlife Jewels strives to deepen our connection with nature and inspire meaningful action to protect the remarkable animals that share our coastline.

Celebrating Our Ocean Together

A special thank you to the Walter Munk Foundation for organizing such a memorable celebration of ocean science, exploration, and conservation!

We are grateful to everyone who visited the Wildlife Jewels booth, participated in our wildlife painting activity, and shared their enthusiasm for protecting our beautiful ocean and its extraordinary wildlife.
