🌍 World Environment Day 2025

Theme: Ending Plastic Pollution

This year’s World Environment Day focuses on ending plastic pollution.

Today, we’re highlighting a tragic reality we witnessed during our recent EYES Coastal Monitoring—a Ground Squirrel with a plastic bag lodged in his mouth, desperately struggling to remove it. He was on a closed section of the cliffside at the Cove, and heartbreakingly, we couldn’t reach him to help.

On this World Environment Day—and every day—we can take action to prevent scenes like this:

🛍 Choose non-plastic options when shopping

🚶 Carry a reusable tote on your walks to collect debris

🚯 Say no to single-use plastics

Join Wildlife Jewels Sweep for Wildlife group and be part of the solution at one of our local beach cleanups!

Plastic waste is everywhere—floating in the water, tangled in kelp, scattered across the sand.

Recently, during our EYES coastal wildlife monitoring, we observed a juvenile gull repeatedly pecking at a plastic Gatorade bottle.

Scenes like this are far too common—and dangerous. Plastic pollution harms wildlife every day, often in ways we don’t immediately see.
