Thank you to Spectrum News 1 SoCal for shining a light on Wildlife Jewels’ EYES program, created to help spot and protect distressed coastal wildlife along the California Coast!
The story features our monitoring of six Western Gull nests in La Jolla and how the domoic acid crisis and other growing threats to sea life inspired the launch of Wildlife Jewels EYES.
It also highlights the amazing efforts of San Diego’s dedicated organizations rescuing and rehabilitating marine life.

We recently had the pleasure of visiting San Diego Humane Society's Ramona Project Wildlife Campus and meeting their precious wildlife ambassadors. It was a delight to learn about and photograph the majestic wildlife ambassadors.

Wildlife Jewels Rescue Updates
A Second Chance for an Entangled Brown Pelican. One moment of awareness helped change the course of his life. On July 22, 2026, a Wildlife Jewels® Search Scout survey at Crystal Cove State Park became an unexpected rescue mission.
Wildlife Jewels continues monitoring injured harbor seal pup Kyanite at La Jolla's Children's Pool. Giving her space to haul out could provide a chance for rescue.
Wildlife Jewels documented at least 10 entangled cormorants in one day at Point La Jolla. Learn about this growing seabird entanglement crisis and ongoing monitoring efforts.

During our EYES field surveys at Children’s Pool, we have continued observing the same injured harbor seal pup since June 28. She has a deep wound near her left shoulder/front flipper and appears to have difficulty moving.

A California Brown Pelican in distress at San Marcos High School was safely rescued through coordinated efforts between Wildlife Jewels Rescue Crew, San Diego Humane Society, and SeaWorld Rescue.

We’re excited to share highlights from our recent pollinator arts program with the wonderful 7th-grade Service Learning students from Pacific Ridge School in Carlsbad.
We recently co-led a wonderful art workshop with Newport Bay Conservancy for the students of Lowell Elementary. The workshop focused on raising awareness about the magnificent and unique pollinators that inhabit Upper Newport Bay, including the precious Monarch Butterfly, the Bush Sunflower, and the adorable Anna’s Hummingbird.
We recently had the joy of hosting a series of art and conservation workshops for the dedicated 7th-grade Service Learning students from Pacific Ridge School in Carlsbad!
