We’re thrilled to launch our new Jewels of Newport Bay program page — a space to explore the art, stories, and wonders of Newport Bay’s wildlife we’ve featured. Discover our current projects and meet the precious wildlife that inspire them, with more to come — including wildlife-themed fashion pieces, coloring activities, and future community art projects.
We’re kicking things off with Paint for Wildlife™: Jewels of Newport Bay – Community Edition, Series 1, sharing the behind-the-scenes journey from inspiration to art and community collaboration.
Inspired by the magical wildlife of Upper Newport Bay, our Founder & Artist Azi Sharif created an original composition featuring the endangered Ridgway’s Rail at its heart — surrounded by species she personally photographed and observed at the Bay.
During our Paint for Wildlife activity at Newport Bay Conservancy’s Earth Day at the Bay, the community brought these drawings to life with vibrant color.
Each brushstroke tells a story — from a striking Yellow-crowned Night Heron to a graceful Mallard Duck and a delicate Monarch Butterfly — calling for action to protect the Bay’s treasured wildlife.

We recently had the pleasure of visiting San Diego Humane Society's Ramona Project Wildlife Campus and meeting their precious wildlife ambassadors. It was a delight to learn about and photograph the majestic wildlife ambassadors.

A Second Chance for an Entangled Brown Pelican. One moment of awareness helped change the course of his life. On July 22, 2026, a Wildlife Jewels® Search Scout survey at Crystal Cove State Park became an unexpected rescue mission.
Wildlife Jewels continues monitoring injured harbor seal pup Kyanite at La Jolla's Children's Pool. Giving her space to haul out could provide a chance for rescue.

We’re excited to share highlights from our recent pollinator arts program with the wonderful 7th-grade Service Learning students from Pacific Ridge School in Carlsbad.
We recently co-led a wonderful art workshop with Newport Bay Conservancy for the students of Lowell Elementary. The workshop focused on raising awareness about the magnificent and unique pollinators that inhabit Upper Newport Bay, including the precious Monarch Butterfly, the Bush Sunflower, and the adorable Anna’s Hummingbird.
We recently had the joy of hosting a series of art and conservation workshops for the dedicated 7th-grade Service Learning students from Pacific Ridge School in Carlsbad!
